Since 2008, when I served as a professor in the Department of Conservative Dentistry at Seoul National University Bundang Hospital, personal determination and external circumstances led me to dedicate myself fully to tooth replantation. Now, I have finally achieved the milestone of surpassing 5,000 cases.

Rather than merely focusing on the raw number,

I feel truly proud of having persevered through countless difficulties and adverse conditions to stand where I am today.

In a peculiar environment where a dentist faces criticism merely for trying to save natural teeth,

I believe I have come this far because there were far more people who trusted and cheered me on.

When performed with thorough preparation, intentional replantation yields an exceptionally high success rate.

Personally, intentional replantation is the procedure I trust the most and feel most comfortable performing as a clinician.

Not only does it resolve complex issues decisively and cleanly in a single session,

but side effects post-treatment—which many patients worry about—are virtually nonexistent.

In particular, ever since introducing a protocol that combines a specialized periodontal ligament preservation solution with Emdogain, post-treatment pain is nearly absent,

allowing patients to undergo treatment with great comfort.

Just this afternoon, an amusing incident occurred during an intentional replantation procedure.

I had already extracted the tooth and was completely focused on treating it outside the mouth,

when the patient, lying back in the chair,

asked, "Doctor, when are you going to extract the tooth?"

Both my staff and I couldn't help but burst into laughter.

The tooth had been extracted quite a while ago, but the patient felt so little sensation that they hadn't realized it at all.

Intentional tooth replantation is not a half-hearted, "let's just try it, and if it works, great; if not, even better because we can place an implant" kind of makeshift treatment.

Even for severely broken and damaged teeth,

or teeth surrounded by extensive inflammation and draining pus, as long as the periodontal ligament is confirmed to be viable,

they can all be preserved and restored to normal function.

No one could continue practicing a procedure for 20 years if it had a high failure rate and frequent complications.

Intentional replantation is a powerful treatment designed to preserve natural teeth. It is deeply regrettable that, especially in Korea, it is often viewed with skepticism and portrayed in a negative light.

Until the day comes when more dentists focus on saving teeth through intentional replantation and experience the genuine fulfillment it brings,

I intend to continue doing everything within my power.

Those who have never performed intentional replantation properly—or lack the genuine will to do so—have tarnished its reputation.

Yet, among the patients who have undergone intentional replantation with me, hardly anyone regrets their decision.

The procedure is comfortable, and issues that tormented patients for months or years can be thoroughly resolved in about 30 minutes.

If there is any regret, it is only that they suffered for so long unaware of this option, wishing they had undergone intentional replantation much sooner.

Tonight, I find myself reminiscing about the late Dr. Masaka, who generously shared his academic knowledge and technical expertise with me.

The day will come when I reunite with him and converse through the night about natural teeth,

but until then, I plan to commit all my energy and dedication toward saving teeth through intentional replantation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which teeth are eligible for intentional replantation?

Any tooth with viable periodontal ligament tissue can be treated. Even if a tooth is severely damaged, fractured, or accompanied by extensive inflammation and pus, it can be restored to normal health as long as the vitality of the periodontal ligament is verified.

Is intentional tooth replantation painful?

Pain is minimal to nonexistent. By utilizing a specialized periodontal ligament preservation solution combined with Emdogain, patients experience such comfort that they often do not even realize the tooth has been extracted.

How long does the tooth replantation procedure take?

The entire procedure takes approximately 30 minutes. The complete sequence—safely extracting the tooth, performing extraoral treatment under controlled conditions, and replanting it back into the socket—is carried out quickly and cleanly in a single visit.

Do you offer dental implant consultations or general check-ups?

No, we do not. Our clinic is exclusively dedicated to preserving compromised natural teeth facing extraction. We do not provide implant-related consultations or treatments, nor do we offer routine check-ups or basic dental care.
